Has anyone installed a clutch safety switch on their Willys? I have a young daughter and the Wagon tends to attract kids and I just don't want to have to worry about a mishap.
I might be missing something here. A clutch safety switch prevents a vehicle from being started without the pedal being depressed, right? Would taking the key out of the vehicle also prevent this? Ted
I don't want to get in the debate if a clutch safety is needed. There is plenty of those threads around, and I understand there are many alternatives. I'm really looking for ideas on how to add one. Thanks for your help.
Hey. The old arm type brake switch will do what you need. So you just want to brake the start crank part of the system ??? So this would come on when when depressing the clutch pedal I think that type switch will hold up to about 30 amps DC
I'm looking to make it so you can't start unless the clutch is engaged. Preventing the accidental drive through the garage wall or worse if someone turns the key. I think the arm brake control switch or a pull type switch will work. Just need to figure out how to rig it up. Like so many things I've learned here I was hoping someone else had already figured it out. Thanks for the help guys.
Put a mainline power switch on it, under the hood. that way you have to lift the hood, engage the switch, close the hood, before you have available power in the cabin. As long as you don't get lazy and forget to switch it off when you get home, there will never be an accidental starting of your vehicle.
I used a brake light switch on my '50 Plymouth for a clutch safety switch. I just ran the power wire to the starter solenoid through the switch. Worked great. I think I paid $18 for the switch, ordered online. Used the same switch for the brake lights too.
You could put a push button or toggle switch hidden under the dash, seat,or anywhere you want to to prevent a kid or a thief from starting it. Always use the parking brake, that would keep a young child from knocking it into neutral and accidentally rolling out of the driveway into the street like I did with my parents old 51 Chevy when I was 6 yrs. old.
