Where was your Willys today?

Sue and I volunteered at the Gambler 500 event in Redmond, OR last weekend. A big part of the weekend is cleaning up trash on public lands in the area. The 4,000+ people showed up in all sorts of crazy "gambler" vehicles and over the weekend hauled in several abandoned RVs, boats, and cars and filled 24 large dumpsters with trash. We took the CJ over to be our wheels while there and it was a big hit and the best possible utility/work vehicle.

Volunteer Marlene and I had to go find some rocks to hold down signs in the 20-30 mph gusts that kicked up

People streamed in all day and we directed them to the right dumpsters. We separated tires and metal from everything else

A local contractor donates the use of this excavator--for crushing RV's, and unloading large items, packing the dumpsters

These two guys are true "gamblers", they drove their early 46 CJ-2A over from Portland

The Wife wanted to go down to the Dutch Flat Store for an ice cream. We piled in the wagon along with Daisy.

One thing led to another, and we ended up down at the Dutch Flat Power House and Afterbay (reservoir). The original power house was built in the early 1900's

View across the water to the spillway.

We then continued on up to one of the Forebay (reservoirs) that feed the newer Power House.

The water flows from the upper Forebay to the new Power House through a single Penstock for at least a mile down hill.IMG_20240630_161058233.jpg
At this point we had to stop and get out for a better view.
IMG_20240630_161457755.jpg

IMG_20240630_161149368.jpg
Then we the made our way uo to a popular 4x4 hill climb/play area along the powerline access road.
IMG_20240630_161321010.jpg
We then turned around and made our way back down to the New Power House, which is just a Turbine at the bottom of the Penstock and a big generator.
IMG_20240630_162343717.jpg
IMG_20240630_162340393.jpg
And then back out of the canyon and back up to Alta. A little dustier, but no worse for wear.
Thanks for riding along.

So where’s the ice cream?? ;)
Great photos , thanks Rodney!

I took the Willys on a quick trip to "artists point" in the Ozark mountains of Arkansas. This is on old hwy 71. For the past 20 years, most of the traffic now takes interstate 49. I remember there used to be a huge sign just outside of Fayetteville that stated, "10 people killed in last 12 months, drive carefully." It's left 90 degrees, right 90 degrees, up 8%, down 8%, rinse and repeat for about 40 miles.

Also I passed Lake Ft Smith which is the water supply for my town. It is all rainwater runoff from these mountains which is mostly national forest. The annual water report looks like the information on a bottle of reverse osmosis bottled water. My daughters have moved to multiple other towns and their main complaint is the water is terrible compared to home.....it's ruining my hair!! lol

Your wagon looks perfect!

Had the annual friend trip to the off-the-grid family cabin in Humboldt County. The kids are growing up fast, too much for @chelarrys ‘43 GPW for all the kids to fit at the same time. Had to make three rounds for every journey to carry them all.

One of the five-year-old girls would ask for a Jeep ride on a near hourly frequency. Bodes wells for the future.

Wonderful family shots!

Great looking trip, and the Wagon look awesome. Colors really pop!

Daisy the Wife Shauna and I went for drive up to Iron Point, Overlooking the North Fork American river. Great views from up there.

Down at the bottom you can just make out the swimming hole in the American River at the bottom of the Euchre Bar hiking trail.
IMG_20240713_134530410.jpg
The road out to the Iron Point where the Willys is parked stops about 95% of all vehicles.
IMG_20240713_134549737.jpg
It's a beautiful spot looking out over the Sierra Mountains.

On the way back Shauna said she wanted to go down Drum Power House Rd. She had an alternative motive, she needed rocks to fill in where
some had shifted in her Pond/Water Feature.

I know some would never put anything in the back of their Willys wagon, not ever the Mother in Law. But this is what I built it for. To be used.
