Well the IRS finally got off the pot with the 1st time home buyer tax credit for the family and I. Only 1 year and 16 days after closing!!!!!

I will get to move forward with the bigger purchases needed for the wagon now. Want some input on vendors for the rear panels and tailgate valance stuff.

Looking at 3 different ones

Walcks
kaiser willys
willys america

Who has had the good and bad....

Thanks.

Eric

Don't buy the rear crossmember for under your tailgte from KW, it is a piece of shite, look in my build thread  , I got some pieces from Walcks too, not the greatest, I don't know if there is one builder and everybody buys from them or what.

I have heard that they all buy from the one person who has the dies. The dies are worn and the panels are not exact fits, they will need some fitting.

I got mine from Walcks...don't forget to tell them you are a member here (oldwillysforum) for a discount, Kaiser offers 10% off if you mention ewillys.com...previous post are right regardin the dies...ribbed and flat area fine, but the bends for the door and tailgate suck, plus it seemed the panel was longer than it needed to be...it's not a perfect world and the panels look fine after some tweeking....Good Luck
Oh...I wouldn't let them cut the panels in half to save on shipping cost...it's an option for you to consider.

Eric: Some years back, I checked out replacement body panels. Several local body shops told me categorically that the panels came from the Philipines or from Taiwan. They said that by the time you made the bloody things fit, it was almost quicker to have a panel beater make up ones from scratch. They also said that the gauge of material was different and that the type of steel used varied from one panel to the next. Apparently, if "high carbon" steel is used for the pressings, it rusts very quickly. So, in the end I found a fabricator/welder/poet who patched all the badly rusted panels very well. He even rebuilt the lower back end of the vehicle - complete job for $2500. He used "satin coat" (light galvanized) steel made in Ontario, so I did my little patriotic part.

Take a look at the work done at my "Body" webpage <http://www.members.shaw.ca/pavelb/body.html> and compare to the "Before Pics" page.

Chris,
Got a chance to look over your build thread and read up on the issues you had with your rear cross member and also with your side panels.
Needless to say I will be getting into the same challenges that a few other members have had.

Thanks.
Eric

Alright after hours or searching the internet and hearing about all the issues folks have had with the fenders from the major vendors. I found one that admits they are selling blemished units..... I like that honesty at a discounted price.

Sorry to piss a few off that have already paid full pop. (Kevin)
