Finally got the Trans and T case out of the wagon. Pulled them since i already had the V8 out and was wondering what else I should replace. The transmission Shifts tight and never pooped gear so I feel It does not need a rebuild.

Was thinking...
New seal kit for the transmission
New seals for the T case
New Mounts

Was also thinking of switching to a sealed input shaft bearing. Has anyone done this swap? any good sources for the bearing?

Thanks

Ian,
If all was good before internally then I would just do the seals and gaskets with it out. On both the Trans and Tcase.

What kinda tranny and tcase are we talking about here too?

Good luck.

Sounds like you are doing what I did with mine.

Seals and gaskets on trans/tcase, new crossmember for trans/tcase Also tore engine down to short block for seals and gaskets then new motor mounts and bushings.

It has the original t90 and the 18 transfercase. I have read it is good practice to replace them with the Sm465 (which i have) and a dana 20 or 300 or an np205 for the added strength. But then my axles would be the weak link needing the scout swap. I do plan to convert back to the stock 226 at some point so I will keep everything stock. Where did you source the seals? I saw warlocks and a few other venderss for short money.

My willys does have some of the greasest parts of any vehicle i have ever worked on but it is probably a big bonus because it kept the rust away. Sure is a bugger to clean tho.

You can find the seal gasket kits for the transmission and tcase from multiple sources.

Waclks 4wd
Kaiser Willys
4wd.com

they are all about the same price 4wd.com will be your cheapest, however they do lack in the customer service department compared to the 2 previously mentioned sources.

My 2 cents:
If you are planning on going back to the 226 then I would stick with the original set up for the future of being able to restore it to the (Pure) driveline that it was.

Re: Trans and T case are out of the wagon What should i repl

I have found that using a parts cleaning brush ( thick heavy nylon brush ) and oven cleaner does a good job, rinse it off with the garden hose. It might take a few cans, but it will break up the grease/oil.
Here is a before and after...serpintine belt brackets for SBC.

Then I painted them with some engine paint...for that brand new look...I like working on clean things.

I would also replace the intermediate gear shaft and bearings while while you have the transfer case out. They can be replaced while the case is in the vehicle, but it's easier when it's out.
