Willys Model
Willys Year:
My wagon has warn hubs and the dial is all banged up from what looks like someone using vice grips or something to lock on and turn it. (you should have seen the axle nuts, tightened so many times with a chisel there wasn't much left). Anyways, I took the hubs apart but I don't see how you can get that dial out to clean and pretty up. It turns ok after a nice soak in atf. Just looks all hacked up. Is there a trick to this?

Good Question! When I had mine apart years ago, I had the same issue. I thought there would have been a snap ring of sorts inside, but I didn't find one. This leads me to believe that the dial itself is what I term a lock fit. I'm assuming it gets pressed thru the bore past a lock lip of sorts to lock in and is not intended to come out (accidentally or on purpose).

If you find otherwise, please clue us in.

Give these guys a shout: 4 wheelers supply: 602-273-7195 Ask to talk to one of the OLD timers, the new kids on the counter will have NO idea.

Hub are not listed, but if anyone has spare parts they will. I think they have been in business/Warn dealer since the early 50's.

After digging through the goo and stuff I found the screw holding on the cap. (Thanks for the diagram, proved that there has to be something there). It's an allen head and of course is seized. While it soaks in ATF-Acetone mix, any idea if it's right or left hand thread?
