I installed my set of pushbutton door latch releases, and found that before the mechanism releases, the button hits the glass (if rolled up).

I can't seem to find anything obvious wrong, so for now I put the driver side door together with a handle type release.

Has anyone else run into this with the push button style? If so, is there a fix?
I Didn't have this problem with the passenger side, so it has to be a worn part or an adjustment :?:

Bio,
That's exactly what it is; a worn part. if you look at the pad (the shiney part) that trips the lever on the inside of the door, that's what is worn down. I don't know what the measurements are, but I had mine built up and ground down to fit properly. This was on my first truck, years ago. It had the push button style as well. If I remember correctly; a couple of rivits had to be removed to do this. Now if i could get off my butt and take care of my current handle set I might be able to get in and out of my wagon without breaking my wrists. :)

Thanks for the help Steve. I'll revisit the wear areas and see about welding it up.

Bio,
If you do this, can you post some pics of the process for everybody? This is a really common problem. Thanks.

Mine has pushbutton style too, but the part that didnt work was trying to get in from outside. Turned out to be the latch mechanism inside the door. Removed, filed down a bit where a worn activator moved against a pawl-like setup if I recall. Lubed it up and voila! Similar to the inside button release problem, a worn part either built back up, or in my case, mechanically "wear down" the next part in line, gets the job done.

I just bought a 48 Wagon which has the push button handles. I have never had these before, how do they work, just push the button? The exterior door handles are broken so currently I need to crawl in fro the back.

Yes just push the button.

And we all thought you were doing a "Dukes of Hazard" tribute by climbing through the window

Not to hijack the thread, but is there a source for replacement push-buttons? Ive searched a bit, havent found any, perhaps a better keyword for a search.

Jim, any sources on replacement buttons? Mine have deteriorated. I am looking at replacing them but if I can't find replacements, I am going to replace it with regular handles from a 61 pickup, not as cool though.

I made mine out of a drawer pull. Home Depot, Lowes, any woodworking store. ;)

I called Walck's today and asked about replacement buttons-they do not carry them and did not know a source
