Willys Year:
I have a 58 willys wagon that i would like to put the gas can holders on. Can you buy aftermarket ones or do you have to find orginal ones. I was looking at the universal blitz ones but the bolt pattern looks to cloose together. Does anybody have a pictue of the holder so i can see how it bolts on. Thanks

Here are two different types.

I gotta ask how is the one in the top picture going to work in relation to the fender?

I would assume it was set down with the edge right on the fender, but I am not sure as that wagon came with no fenders.

the bottom one is the correct one. the other one is an after-market one. notice the bottom one has a strap tie-down and the top on is made so it just sits in there and strap the top for serious rock climbers. The canvas strap tends to rot out in a few years. I salvaged a few off the Abrams tank I used to command that are nylon type configuration. any Army/Navy store has them for around 7 bucks.

Mine didn't have plate inside either wagon. The bottom ones with the supports to the fender did have three inch fender washers on the inside. The top one was definetly after market and had regular size washers and had cracked out the panel quite badly.

Did someone run it without fenders? The angle where the silver and white paint come together is obviously the angle of the fender. And yes the bottom is correct. I believe there is actually a bracket set that bolted to the fender and supported the holder, instead of it being bolted to the body.

i have a different style that came off mine. Mine are surely an aftermarket replacement from the factory original but still have an old school look to them. Will try to get some pics up later.

The wagon is a 62 so the silver/ white paint transition is the chrome line not the fender line. I have no idea what they did with the fenders, they were gone before they put it up for sale.

The plate was I believe 1/8" plate stock. It was also on the M38 and M38A1. You can fab one out of flat sheet stock and rubberize the side going on the inside wall to stabilize and seal the bolt holes. Found two original ones stashed in our motorpool storage they were gonna throw out for scrap! They are mine NOW! Still OD green with canvas straps and backing plates. They hold the old style metal can not the new plastic ones :(
Will post pics later.

I didn't get pics of my mount yet, but from what my plans are right now, I will have an extra steel 5 gallon can and mount if anyone wants to claim it just shoot me a pm. The other mount and can going into my left rear fender. I have a buddy installing a subwoofer into the gas can for a little bump in the trunk.
