Let me start by admitting I have cheated. Instead of acquiring a rusty project vehicle (been there, done that) I snuck much closer to the finish line and elected to adopt one in need of only minor puttering to look good and be road worthy.

In January 2011 I took delivery of an early (#971 off the assembly line) 1947 2 wheel drive pickup that has obviously never been in the Northeast before. I don't know the history of this truck, but judging from the amazing lack of rust and lack of the optional heater my guess is that it spent most of its well cared for life in the Southwest.

It has undergone some fair restoration work with everything done tastefully and with an obvious eye toward originality. So far I have installed a new fuel pump, replaced the missing horn and horn button wiring and have managed find an easy solution to getting the sluggish vacuum wiper motor working properly. A new exhaust system is on the way and once installed we should be ready for registration and inspection.

It's great to find this community of fellow Willys Wagon and Pickup enthusiasts to share information with.

Hi Brian,
Welcome to the forum. Nice truck you have there! You must be a pretty smart guy getting one that is ready to go.

Hey Brian

Welcome from a little West of you, the land of snow, salt and rust...aka Upstate NY area. WOW....you have an awesome looking Willys truck. I hope you have tons of fun with it. Have you run it yet on the road?? Almost looks too nice to drive on the road.

Great bunch of gals and guys on this forum. You will learn bunches from them.

Thanks for the welcome notes.

The older I get, the smarter I get. I've decided that the pay me now philosophy is cheaper in the long run than the pay me later alternative. Much less time consuming too.

No, I haven't had it out on the road yet - just back and forth in the driveway. Steering is tight and brakes feel good though so I'm looking forward to the maiden voyage.

I had a '60 wagon a number of years ago which I had a lot of fun with but it succumbed to rust. I took it apart to fix it but never got it back together. I decided if I ever ventured into Willys land again it would be with one that was not as challenging.
