I'm looking for a pair of chrome bumpers for my '63 CJ5. They were used on the Tuxedo Park and Surrey models. These are not the same as used on the Willys wagons and pickups. I have checked eBay and all the Jeep places I know of but they sell only the off-road bumpers. Any help appreciated!

I have a 66 Tux and just to let you know the bumpers are interchangeable, front and back. It might take a while to find them, best of luck.

Register on EarlyCJ5.com and post a want ad. I see Tux parts for sale on there all the time; lately I have not seen a bumper but there are lots of guys that dabble in that model of CJ5 so you are bound to find something.

I thought that. I parted out plenty of Commmandos. And I tried to. buy a Tuxedo Park in a auto parts yard (couldn't agree on a price) but I remembered that bumper looks like a Commando.

The Jeepster Man has a rear bumper for the Commando. Don't know why they don't show a front bumper. Are they different, front and rear? The Commando rear bumper has six mounting holes, my Tux Park bumper has three holes (one for the license plate bracket?) . I don't know if the Commando rear bumper's holes will line up with the Tux park bumper brackets.

I will take Gear Grinder's advice and check out the EarlyCJ5.com site.

I did some research for you. The bumpers are not the same and the Jeepster bumper is wider. Apparently there is a small detail with the curvature that is also different. I read a thread where someone shortened a Jeepster bumper then drilled the new holes and filled the old ones. It would then need to be chromed.

Thanks. I suspected the Commando bumper was wider after seeing a picture of a CJ5 with such a bumper on eWillys. It just didn't look right.

The Tuxedo Park chrome bumpers are exactly the same for the front and rear (same curve and mounting holes) The front attaches directly to the frame horns with only two bolts. It’s very important to have the bumper on as it locks in the front frame horns! The third hole is for the license plate bracket, which was on the drivers side. The rear bumper took special brackets to attach. They are as hard to find as the bumper! They look like a “Z” when placed on edge. The Jeepster FRONT ONLY bumper is the same size and curve, BUT it has top and bottom mounting holes, along with the 3 on the face of the bumper. Not really a big deal, unless looking for a correct restoration.( I used the Jeepster bumper until I found a set of Tux ones.)
They do show up, condition is the hard part. A rough set will still fetch good money, +400 USD
A drivers nice set is +600 USD
Mint set expect to pay +1000 USD!
I may be on the high side for prices, but what I have seen when looking for 6 years for Tux parts.
Now how about that rear licence plate light holder! ;)
