Hi all,

I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Larry in the Sacramento area with a '42 MB. My son Dan "Scramboleer" is also on this forum. I currently have two Willys - a 1942 MB that's near stock and and 1946 CJ2A that's definitely a Jeep salad. The '46 has a military (Ford) tub and a Bechel-McCone rebuild plate on the dash but a CJ2A grill and modified windshield. The drive train on the '46 is stock with the addition of a Warn overdrive. My dad had a '56 Wagon with a Chevy 255 back in the 1960s. I was only a boy at the time, but I remember him modifying the firewall with a sledgehammer to make the 255 fit.

In any case, we've had numerous other old cars over the years ('29 and '30 Model As, '39 Buick Special 90). It's in our blood I guess and it's fun to drive and tinker with them.

The '42 MB was a garage find from a few years ago back when we lived in Eureka; it was in pieces at the time and I've been slowly putting it back together. My plan is to get it running (currently having some idle problems) and sell it and hopefully replace it with a '49 to '51 Jeepster (still haven't decided whether stock or resto-rod is the way to go).

I know the forum is more geared toward Wagons/Trucks/Deliveries/Forward Controls/etc., and that g503 and the CJ forums are quite active, but Dan speaks highly of you all so I thought I'd say hi here.

Hi Larry, welcome to the forum. There is a wealth of information on here as Dan has said. I just bought a 49 jeepster with the same motor you want. The 161. He told me you were looking for the right one.
Any ways. Welcome.

Hi there Larry ! I'm not that far from you, I'm in Reno. Welcome here. Let me know when you want to sell the 43 MB !

Larry, W E L C O M E to the Forum from Colorful Colorado. I am sure Dan is pleased to have you join. Pete is considering having a special threat for CJ but he hasn't made up his mind yet.

Welcome to the forum from Texas. The '46 may be a salad but it sure is a beauty.

Thanks all. I'll answer for my dad since he doesn't get on the computer much.

The '46CJ2A has a Ford GPW tub (we think) as it has the Ford tool box lids. It's definitely a military WWII tub as it has a glove-box and tool indents, but lacks a tailgate. It's missing the main data plate (boo) and someone extended the windshield. We wish it could talk as it has a "rebuilt by Bechtel-McCone in Birmingham, Alabama" plate on the dash. There aren't the typical CJ2A plates or other ID marks on the frame that we've been able to find.

Dad bought it about a decade ago (or longer?) in good shape. It had the five spoke wagon wheels and black roll bar on it when he got it; he switched back to the black steel wheels and narrower tires and added a Warn overdrive. He's since gone through the ignition, brakes, fuel system, cooling system, etc. It chugs along nicely, especially with the overdrive.

Dad is now officially a docent at the California Auto Museum in Sacramento. Here is a picture of his Willys MB at the Saturday's docent graduation and car show:

Welcome Larry,

Thanks for the new to me termonology, "Jeep Salad" will be used often by me from here on seeing as I am tossing one together myself using two different Jeeps.

Nice little CJ3. I'm building one from the frame up here in Santa Cruz, CA. It used to look like your kermit, but its in pieces now. I may have it done this summer.

Dad got the rear main seal replaced on his '42 MB. Here it is coming back from its test drive:

Mom and Dad (chelarrys) stopped by Willys America today; wanted to talk to Paul about Jeepsters. Here's a pic of the yard:

Dad got the leak in the rear main in the MB fixed last summer:

In mid-July, he then sold the Jeep to a nice rancher down in the Central Valley:

Now dad could move on to his next project: reverting the lime-green 194? GPW/1946 CJ2A Jeep salad back to a more military look. More to come.

So dad and my brother stripped, prepped, sanded, and cleaned the GPW/CJ2A Jeep salad to get it ready for paint:

Last week, he then flat-towed it across town to his buddy Dave's house (retired body guy) for some olive-drab paint:

And so the salad got a few coats of olive-drab:

Thanks Dave!
