HEY , I HAVE 59 WAGON DO YOU KNOW IF I CAN PUT ANY OTHER FUEL PUMP IN MY 226/6?

Re: 62 Wagon Progress "Colorado"

If you don't want to replace the fuel pump with a factory style you can install an electric pump back by the tank, inline filter and a pressure regulator. Then your existing pump is just there. I don't know of any one aftermarket with a fuel pump block off plate unless you removed it and fab'd one yourself.

I don't have a Willys engine, but I still have my stock mechanical puel pump on the side of the engine. Then I've got a Bosch electric pump back by the tank like Eric was describing. The electric pump feeds through the mechanical one and also has a circulating line going back to the tank. The two things I learned are that you need to be mindful of the pressure it runs. More is not better. Also, if you don't already have one, install an overflow line going from your mechanical pump back to the tank. It made all the difference in the world.

Re: 62 Wagon Progress "Colorado"

Kyle has a SBC if I am not mistaken. I am working with a SBF. I don't have a return from my carb, and my originall fuel pump set up didn't have one either. The SBF I am working with is from a 72 Ford. The electric pump I have installed (not running yet) has a max of 12 psi then inline fuel filter, to a 3 psi to 6 psi pressure regulator that will be in the engine compartment. The Ford original pressure was 4-7 psi.

I can honestly say I don't know the 6-226 fuel setup to give more input other than what Kyle and I have.

Michael-

I split your question from Eric B's build thread, and put it into your own thread where it might get seen and more answers.

When I bought my truck the owner before me had a Airtex E8012S Electric Fuel Pump, installed with a pressure regulator, and a check valve. That system worked well fired up everytime. Eight years later when I got the truck back on the road the shop put in a summit fuel pump. The thing sounded like a chain saw, it was rediculous... The most annoying thing I have ever heard. They recommended a manual fuel pump which I bought. It is very nice now with no noise, but I am having some hot start issues, which could be from vapor lock or I just need a carb rebuild. The cool part, is I was able to leave the summit pump inline, so I have a back up fuel pump installed. All I do is put the fuse back in...along with some ear plugs.

With a 5.7L Vortec, like the one Midnight just acquired for his wagon, you need an electric pump with if I remember correctly, 90-95 psi. It has a return line to the tank to take care of the extra fuel flow. Fuel pump is frame rail mounted with a factory Chevy filter in front of it. High pressure fuel hose is a must and run hard lines as much as you can.

Merry Christmas

I was having terrible trouble with some hot/warm starts which left me stranded a few times. The addition of the return line going back to the tank made all the difference. Have never had the problem since.
