Couple of questions about rear truck axle (pic inside)

My axle is a Timken. Using the Timken is not an option. I want to upgrade it to something to match the 3.73 gears in the front axle. Can someone ID this axle? It is out of a 1948 Willys pickup. My question is: can I have this axle rebuilt with 3.73 gears?

Most likely a Dana 53 model axle which was offered through the Willys year and even the J series pickup later on.
Only ring and pinions I can find are no lower than 4.09.

What kind of axle do you have in the front? The original Dana 25/27 was never available with that high of gearing.

Look at the top side of the casing. There should be a model # stamped on it under the dirt; ie...44, 53 and such. That will tell you what you have.
