Received my Walcks/Then & Now rebuild kit, having a time figuring out how to "unhook" the fuel diaphragm rod from the actuating rocker arm.
I've tried compressing the spring and turning, flat blade from the side pushing away from rocker arm, the diaphragm rod will not disengage. Any suggestions?
Typically you have to push down and angle the shaft away from the hook while holding the center hook plate up with whatever fits in there. Barring that, you'll have to remove the pump arm pin and finagle it out.
It would not budge any way I tried (watched T&NA videos), so I carefully cut the top off the old diaphragm to retrieve spring, relieve pressure, some finagling it finally unhooked. All valves etc out, soaking in carb cleaner before rebuilding.
If you had that much "fun" getting it off you'll have a "great" time putting it back together! At least that was my experience. Then, suddenly, it just went where it belongs.
Done. Thanks to Walcks/Then & Now Automotive. Keep them original, keep them American! @Scoutpilot I found the trick, on the actuating arm, right where it goes into the gasket area, the middle, where the hook is located, actuates up and down, press a flat blade gently there, hook stays put, pushing forward/down, it hooked.
