ok guys....got the new temp guage for 61 'woody' sw from waulks....and a new sending unit. It's at my favorite old guy mechanic's shop and they've got the speedo loose and trying it. Nothing. ground the gauge and it jumps over to full. hook it up.....nothing. checked the wire for breaks...nothing. Stopped by last night and asked them to try the old sending unit on monday? any ideas as to how to get the dumb guage to work? 226 hurricane. replaced the thermostat and they rodded out the radiator. I'd just like to have the temp guage working now....?
Is there some way of testing that new sending unit? to the guage? thanks....Mike

Looking at the rear of the gauge, the right hand connector on the temp gauge connects to the sending unit, the other connects to a jumper wire that goes to the center pole of the fuel gauge. On the fuel gauge, the left connector goes to fuel tank sender, right connector to ignition.

Wally....thanks for that. i've printed it out, and will be taking it to them Monday am.......your info hopefully will bring this little project to a good ending. It's sure good to have this forum, and the help that is given.

This thing is taking a life of it's own. Wiring was correct, and temp. guage still doesn't work. fyi....talked to Waulks, and he asked me if the fuel guage was working? When I said no.....he told me that the fuel guage has to be in good working condition, as there's a 'pulsator' or something like that inside that if it's not working....then it also won't let the temperature gauge work. So today i sent for a new fuel guage in the hopes that replacing it, will make my temp. guage start working. Hey...maybe i'll have a working fuel guage too!! that's a plus.

Hope this info helps anyone else that is replacing guages in these old Willys.
Mike
