here is a couple of pictures of the hood latch with the spring. there is a hole one side of the latch that the spring goes in to.

Daughters boyfriend (wanna be son-in-law) installed mine and I supervised. He did several ways and then got it right. If it had been me the spring would have been bounced somewhere in the barn. When I got the safety latch, from Jeepsterman I should have bought a new spring.
