Where was your Willys today?

I needed a VIN inspection and the State Police facility was a little outside the range I'm comfortable driving the CJ at this point, so I decided to flat tow. Harry came with a towbar, so i got some lights, upgraded the saftey chain, and took our first trip today. This is how we want to travel with our camper anyhow, so it was a good chance to try it out. It was only 10 miles each way so i didn't bother pulling the drive line. I put transfer case in neutral and tranny in 3rd.

Harry passed inspection with matching VINs on frame and body. Now to send everything down to New Mexico and hopefully get a title this time.

I'm curious. Why transmission in 3rd? Am I missing an important flat towing step? I tow with t/c and trans in neutral, front hubs unlocked.
It is a T90 thing. The splash lubrication for the T90 happens when the tranny input shaft is spinning which it won’t be while towing. Putting it in gear ensures that the rear shaft doesn’t spin due to any parasitic drag from the xfer case, even though it is in neutral. Spinning without lube is frowned upon.

… fuelwood cutting today …

Which state is Big Bear City in?
Near Big Bear Lake in San Bernardino County, Ca.

Today we had a guest speaker in Church for a special Memorial Day Tribute, there wasn't a dry eye in the place.
. I wasn't going to take the Willys Wagon because it was so disgusting. Totally covered in pollen.
Then I went out to the other cars and they were just as bad.
I shouldn't have worried since I parked next to a friends distant Jeep relative.

Installed new points and reset the timing — found the timing quite advanced. Took it out for another test drive, much better.

The ride is so much better with the new shocks, still stiff on the Rancho Springs, the bumps can still be felt, but they’re much more muted. 30-year-old shocks with very loose bushings weren’t doing much to control the ride.

I love that everything is still green in the Foothills.

After putting the Wagon away. I decided to drive the CJX down a few miles to where a friend has his trailer in Gold Run that I might end up using for the RFTH Rally next weekend. I had about everything on board except for the Wife and dog. I re-set the trip meter on the speedo and hit the freeway at Dutch Flat. Just rolled onto the on ramp in 4th gear at low revs .

Still stable and the 5.0L Ford was just humming along.
