Photo from the Roy W. Howard Collection at Indiana University

"Roy W. Howard’s first entry into journalism was as a paperboy delivering The Indianapolis Star each morning and The Indianapolis News each afternoon. By high school he was selling his own stories, initiating a lifetime of news gathering and reporting that would take him around the world, meeting and writing about global figures. While leading Scripps Howard Newspapers for four decades, Howard was an innovator who protected the rights of free and independent press. The Media School oversees hundreds of images taken from the early 1900s through the 1960s, documenting Roy W. Howard’s life through world travel, relationships with world leaders, and his long career as a news reporter."

AL Mooney spent a couple of years getting the motor to run long enough for certification in the original M-18, "Mooney Mite." 22 horsepower as I recall, and the Mite would do 100 mph. He finally did but once in the field the crankshafts had a nasty habit of breaking. Turned out the cranks'metallurgy was really inconsistent. So he called all the delivered Mites back and installed a 65 hp Lycoming and later Contenintal.

They're still out there. I know this isn't Willys related ... but since we're on the topic, coincidently, this showed up on CL today (not mine):

I take full responsibility for the derailment, it just kinda stuck out there.

Doing some further research of the photo it's located in Buffalo, NY off Delaware Ave and used to actually be the Pierce Arrow company.

All these old pictures have so many stories and details to look at.

I do like the detail on the front top edge of that artic top deal on the Jeep, it's something I never noticed before.

Reminds me of the old school Aluminum Awnings from the time frame.

I don't doubt you, but how did you determine that the shopping centre was on the old Piece Arrow Factory site.
The Pierce Arrow Museum in Buffalo is a not for profit owned by Jim and Mary Ann Sandoro. They are great folks.
I thought the current location of the museum was the original site of Pierce Arrow?

Probably because you've been wondering what those Tornado engines would look about perfect in. My vote is for using that tub as dune bugyy with a tornado, fwiw

Yeah this is on the other side of the large block from that factory according to Maps. Pretty cool info.

But to get into the search, I did the following search in Newspapers.com

Based on the Crosley looked fairly new I went on the 1947 hunch. Since it's fully built out was after this article for sure.

Where I grew up in NJ, we had A&P stores so I was curious where this was, so I picked out that Saltzman and the A&P and started there and got a great hit right away about when the property was first developed, they were already leasing the stores, all of them in the pic are in this article, and it gives the detailed location North of "Great Arrow Ave"

searched: Saltzman "A&P" 1947

And I found an article that said the land was being developed and was the Pierce Arrow "property", looking at Google maps the other side of the property is the offical preserved Historic site.

You can make out the some of the other names of the stores like the Fanny Farmer next door. To Saltzmans.

It would have been easier to search that giant sign on the top, but somehow I actually missed that giant thing! Or the giant MH Fishman sign! Missed that too, but it's listed in the article.
