i see the service manual is pretty vague on how to install and time the gears and chain so like the old expression goes a picture is worth a thousand words so i'm posting this to help others and i took some really good closeups notice the number 1 and number 6 piston at tdc with both valves closed also notice the number of pins between the timing marks to get this set correctly if you have the cylinder head still bolted down then find your tdc on number 1 and 6 with the appropiate tool you normally use

Timing marks should be 9 links or 10 pins apart. Was noted on the backside of my timing chain cover as I recall. When I received my engine from the machine shop it sucked in the exhaust and blew out the carb. However I could be wrong.
