Starter Support Bracket

Attached is picture of the 226 in my 55 Willys Wagon. There appears to be two threaded holes in the block, just below the starter on the drivers side. Any idea what these are used for?

My 57' has the same 2 holes. It didn't have anything attached to it. Looks like it never did since the holes were rusty

Thanks for the reply and picture. Mine do not look like bolts are broken off inside, and was curious if others had the same.

The Continental 226 is used in a bunch of different applications (generators, water pumps, etc) so maybe the holes were used in these other products.
