roundss 52 willys wagon build

Great progress and I always enjoy pic's. I sure wish ONE of you folks that are working on a Project Wagan was closer to me, it seems everyone is west of the Mississippi.
You are right too, Midnightburn (Kevin) did a fanastic job on his Wagon and has always had an open ear when I have called to talk and ask questions.
Stay safe!

I got the motor unhooked............what a PITA!!!! but it's moved back.

I was able to get all the bolt holes for the trans c-member to bolt in.

AND I have enough room between the gas tank and transfer case.

I love it when a plan comes together

They must have had this project in mind when they put in the extra set of holes. ;)
Nice win there.

Actually, the other holes are for the manual transmission set up. It was a longer combo then the autos, or was it the other way around....

Steve, thank you for showing me the site, you have done some awesome work and I'll be watching your progress. Thanks for sharin...

Thanks for joining. Glad to have ya. if could get an elk this week I could go home and do some more work but that doesn't look like t's gonna happen. 2 days to go. Ether way 'll get started back on her on Monday at the latest

Well I got the body on. I still need to get some more room up front. but I'll gain some by extending the fenders and making the rear wheel well larger. I'll post pics of my plan there when I get done photo-chopping it. I'd like to hear what ya think.

For those of you that I've talked to and those that say "Just move the engine back dummy"........................I don't want to and you can't make me

Seriously though. I really don't want to move the engine back any further because if I do that then I'll have to move the gas tank to where the spare tire is. PLUS if I make the rear fender well bigger I can put bigger tires under it without having to jack it to the moon.

And I know using the loader to put the body on is cheating.

Here's what I was thinking about for the rear fenders. It's not the best chop but I think you'll get the idea.

I'll be moving it to the other side anyways so what's a little more metal work

Looks like it will work, need some bigger tires under it to make the wheel well opening look right, but that is the plan right? I was going to say using the loader is cheating until I saw you said it, so I will say "that looks like a wonderful labor and back saver."

In the words of Foghorn Leghorn............" I say, I say, come here boy. You been flim-flammed, hood winked, bamboozled"

A PO spent some SERIOUS time completely fugging up the floor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!          If the stupid S.O.B. would have spent as much time fixing it the right way as he did putting down FIBERGLASS it would have looked like factory. Picture to come. Must go drink......................

In my rage I may have not taken very good pics but here's the pics................................. :x

It looks like it's just in the floorboards. BUT i can't be sure since the PO did a good job hiding this.

I haven't had time to mess with it since the last pics but I'm getting a little work done this week. Here are some better pics. The fender just has 2 bolts in it for now but I wanted to get it on to see what it looked like and make sure the front isn't pitched up or down to much. It's a good place to start but I'll probably end up moving the front up a little more but that's easy since I don't have the body mounts made yet.

That's all for now boys and girls.

I feel your pain I just started taking out all the old carpet in my 62 pickup I've had for about 8 weeks now and found the same thing. Instead of fixing it right (dum***) he just glassed over everthing put alum foil on top of that a carpet pad and then some carpet. I'm sure it kept a lot of heat out of the cab (I live in arizona) and it has a sbc in it but lets git real he could of did it anyway but the way he did o well back to the drawing board. nice wagon you have there keep up the good work.

It's "fun" seeing what the previous owner does to a floor board...fiber-glass cloth, resin and some bondo over the rust. Hide it all with carpet and gob's of under-coating speared....adding a few hundred pounds to the vehicle.

I placed an order with Kaiser.
driver and pass side floor braces (front and back) & rocker panel supports

My work ordered some steel too :D
I might need to TEST it on the wagon and see if it's good enough for the containers I'm fixing.

I was able to get the body moved forward about 3-4" last night.

I forgot to lower the jack for this pic. It's not sitting raked like that it's pretty close to level.
I've got about 6" between the front of the rear tire to the fender and plan on making the gap at the rear of the tire the same, or pretty close.
e36cf3bb.jpg

Those are 28" tires on 16" rims. I can put 37's on and pretty much fill the fenders with a little room front and back.

Looking good. What are you going to do with the radiator looks like it is in front of where the grill should be.

Before I lock everything down I'll be pulling the radiator and fitting the other fender and grill to see how much room I have. I'm thinking that I can get a smaller radiator and an electric fan to fit. I've just got to make sure it's big enough to cool the 360. I can move the a/c and power steering (coolers?) if I need to. If they don't get enough cooling behind the radiator I'll mount them like Kevin. I don't know much about the cooling of those to know if I can put them behind the rad and go with a pusher fan.
I've got more room to move the whole body forward but The gap for the rear tires would look silly and the gap between the back of front tire and fender wouldn't be enough.

OK, got the radiator out and I am hopeful there is enough room for a radiator that will keep that pig cool. I have my radiator guy through work on it so we'll see but here's where it's at for now.

I can't take a straight picture to save my life. There is less room at the bottom than the top because of the angle of the motor but it's not as bad as it looks.

I hear that the YJ, XJ, ZJ........whatever........J...... lights will fit where the stockers do and give me a little better lighting (although not cheap). It's possible they might save me some room too, which would be the main reason for switching. I'll need to check and see.
