While out on a Sunday cruise I suddenly noticed a growling coming from the rear end especially in third gear (top of second also). It came on after a downshift from 3rd to 2nd. Got it home and the rear diff cover was pretty warm and could hear some clanking going on back there (dana 41 w/ 4:27 ratio, T-90A, T-18tc). I'm still learning, so what do you think? Muliple choice question?

a. Rear Diff rebuild
b.Transmission or Transfer case problem
c.U-Joints
d.All of the above

it might just be low on fluid check that then if not that pull the rear diff cover you can tell a lot by checking out the gears and bearings just a thought good luck

Mark,I think the first thing I would do is drain the gear oil out of tranny,t case and rear end and look for metal fillings in the oil and pursue the problem from there,if the rear end was warm thats where I would start.....good luck, hope it was just low on oil......Jim
