Willys Year:
Hello every body the PAPAS34 is my old CB handle and personalized plate on my 34 Ford hotrod....so if you see a black 34 with that plate it's me.
On to Willy's......I've lived in Utah most of my 55 years.
I was about 5 years old when I was first introduced to Willy's by my dad and uncle, both who were also into oldschool hotrods.
My dad always had a Willy's truck with a 283 chevy which was otherwise stock, I drove it when I first got my drivers license and my uncle had an old wagon that I remember riding around town in with a bunch of cousins...he later got into International Scouts....poor fool.... still misses his wagon.
I have owned a dozen or so Willy's, a few cj5's, a great Commando........and many other old cars and trucks most of which were hotrodded in one way or another, still have 13 and one nice 1951 Willy's flatbed. I even once owned a 1942 Ford produced Jeep.
The 51 is mostly stock with 4cyl,T-90...the only modification I can find is a one-wire 12 volt alternator and a lot of burnt out bulbs....lol !!! I bought it a few month ago and so far have only driven it home to put away till I decide what I'll do with it.
I've been looking at some of the things you guys have done to you rides......I have a parts car with chevy adapters and could easily go that way..... my dads truck ran for decades as a daily driver with T-90 283 and only broke thing when my younger brother got into a drunken tug of war with a 390 ford 4x4.
I drove the V-6 odd fire Buick powered Commando for years and loved it both on the freeway and in the mountains here in Utah...it was really good in the deep snow, just a bit heavier than a CJ-5.
I also like the K-5 Blazer thing...would miss the whin, but think I could get over that pretty fast.
I also have a 331 Hemi that could be a bit different if anyone know how to do that!!
Time will tell

Great site glad I found you all.

Hey Papas

Welcome aboard. I think it is great you are a hot rodder (old school). I love anything old. Gotta love these old trucks too. Not as much interest in these as your old Fords you have. I guess we are a special breed indeed. These guys here have a ton of knowledge and arent afraid to share. :)

Hey do those truckers still use CB's????..I remember as a kid there was a movie "convoy" and a song by CW McCall...something about a rubber duck....didnt know if they went away like home phone lines..

Most Truckers still have C B but not used much anymore....most drivers are into satellite radios these days....I know I was. Now I'm retired my C B is out in the garage in a box.....

Welcome to the forum Papas34...

Pete

I would fit the Hemi for sure :)
Keep it in the family I say. Look forward to what happens with it.

Welcome aboard. Sounds like me. To many projects going on. I to have an old ford p/u. Going to leave it to my son at his 16th birthday. Chuck

Ya tell me about it....been planing for years to retire out in the woods...live off the land...build a car a year.

I have a wife willing to give it a try and a long time friend looking forward to it, own 8.5 acres with a old house, new shop 45x65, solar, wind, steam, 2 wells, good neighbors ... and now the economy has gone to pot...don't think I want to spend much money fixing up some old car and then not be able to make anything selling it!!!!
The Willys has always been a keeper and really only needs a battery to be road ready....if 45 mph is the goal.

I have a old overdrive off a doner but have not figured out what it is yet....the farm is 120 miles from my wife's home and right now I live with her....she will retire in 3 years and we will sell her house and move full time out to the farm.

My shoe size is 11, my shirt size..first kiss... feel like I'm telling you my lifes story...sorry...still getting used to retirement.

Welcome to the forum!

Just doing my job!!!!

Thanks Justin
I see you have a flatbed too....I never knew till recently just how many of these they made...I read somewhere they made a lot of they... never saw them as a kid...I have one too...out on the farm in the shop.
I have a few of my projects outside over there...a few weeks ago I was out there and some guy stopped to ask if I wanted to sell the Henry J {another storey}... we got talking and he wanted to see the Anglia I told him about...it is in the shop with a few other toys...we walked in and he looked over at the Willys and about passed out....He told me he found it in a wrecking ward, pulled it out and built it up...he even built the flatbed from scratch...he was working at a muffler shop at the time.....sold it after he pulled the v-8 out and put the 4cly in....seems he wanted to go faster than 45 too

Yeah, there are quite a few flatbeds out there, this one had a pick up bed at one time, but it rusted away and the PO put the flat bed on it. Once I figure out how and when to get the '50 down to Alabama, I will be starting to look for a new pickup bed for it..I'm still leery of paying a ridiculous amount for a new disassembled one.

Over the years I have built fro scratch, traded, bough and redone someone's projects and even bought and drove ass is finished rides..... love them all!!!
My flatbed really caught my eye the first time I saw it........ seems flatbeds can look really good or really bad...this one looks great to me and has gotten many positive comments...I'd like to come up with some side rails and maybe a dump.....but I'm sure going to keep the flatbed...I like being just a little different...just be sure you do what makes you happy..
I'll try to get photos soon.
