Hi, I´v just bought an 1958 Willys Fire Truck (second to last build in 1957) with only 5600 miles on the meter. I´v worked as firefighter for the last 16 years and are now running my own experience company The Arctic Drive in the northern part of Norway, above the Arctic Circle.

I will use It with my experience company where you will find beer taps inside the side doors and a big Traeger barbecue in the back. Think it will be named "Fire Starter" :)

Right now I try to find the best solution for running with 35" tires, so if you now the best way please let me know.

Thanks !

Cool rig that looks like a Jeep Dispatcher-Wagon on Steroids !! snicker _ _

Me, I like Big-Balloon-Tiers like Dick Cepek 38-inchers or maybe 44-inchers that can run snow at 4-psi. :)
(the biggest tire I have is a 35-inch BFG All-Terrain on a '78 Ford 4x4 Van. I could feel the lost in braking going from a 33 to a 35 tire. :(

I would recommend an Atlas Transfer-case with 4:1 and multi-speed, then 5:38 or 4:56 ring and pinion.
Jeepster Jim was just telling me last night on the phone that there was an automatic that had a 6:1 low gear set used in early Cement-Trucks.

I like the Icelandic vehicles with the big balloon tires. Up in the high Sierra's we run 4-psi to trek around on top of 10-foot spring snow packs.
Very cool until you break through and drop to the axles or frame. Get that shovel out. hahahaha

Have fun with your new Beer-tab-Collector.

Sure would hate to see you cut those fenders. I hate to recommend it, but this may be a situation that calls for a spring-over approach -- putting the axles under the springs. There may be better ideas, I'm sure folks will chime in. Maybe start a thread in the wagons and pickups forum.
