I am restoring a 47 PU. I have installed a Dana 44 front end from a Scout II with 3.73 gears. 225 Oddfire out of a Commando. T90A trans and Spicer 18 transfer case. Case, trans and engine have all been rebuilt.

My problem is finding a rear axle with the correct width (57" measured at the backing plates) and offset on the pumpkin. Can someone tell me which rears will work? I can redo the gears just need to know what rears will match up. I can get my project on wheels if I can find a rear. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A D53 from mid 60's will bolt right in, but parts are very hard to find. I believe the full sized Jeep axles will fit. Something from a Gladiator or J series.

Mid 80's Chevy truck axles are D44, and measure 63" IIRC from whel mounting surface to WMS. This is close enough, and you could relocate the perches. Not shure if the pumpkin is centered or not.

Personally, I thought the Wagoneer axles were the best choice all the way around. Scout axles have no castor built in. (excluding the late model ones).

Most axle are measured to from one wheel mounting surface ( WMS ) to the other. I believe the rear truck axle it 63.5" and the front 57".
It is far better way of comparing as drums vary a lot in width.

New guy, you can use a late 70's cherokee dana 44. The width is about 1&1/2" wider than what you now have, which moves everything out 3/4" on each end, which is not that much to deal with. You will most likely have to remove and remount new spring perches to account for the difference between your current axle and the new one. I did it on my 48 SW with out a lot of hassles.
