I’ve acquired a 48 Jeepster to finish up that belongs to a relative. It was taken apart about 20 years and repainted but only partially put together. I got it running a few years ago then it went to an upholstery shop to get the top put on. Long story short it was there for over a year and became a storage bin. We picked it up and got it running again and I’ve got another classic car guy doing the top next month. I’ve been fixing the damage to the paint from the upholstery shop and redoing the work the other guy had done. Also chasing down parts that have been lost. Actually took it out today for about a 30 minute drive. But look forward to being here and getting more info on this Jeepster. 62721C1C-2CD1-46F4-8BA1-243090B4AF3E.jpeg

Welcome from North Idaho!Great looking jeepster!
Bill

Thanks everyone.

The paint job has always been hazy looking. The paint store has started carrying a new buffing system and they loaned me the new kit. After about 45 mins of sanding and buffing I told them to order me one. We sanded and buffed this entire Jeepster in about 4 hours.

And what’s amazing even before applying the polish, there is no swirl marks!

Rupes buffing. It’s a dual action buffer that was actually designed for detail shops doing high end cars. You can look up on YouTube and see some videos. The whole kit was over $500 but it is really impressive. There are some cheaper systems and comparisons on YouTube. I was skeptical but after using it, it’s amazing. And actually 90% of the buffing done on this Jeepster was by a friend of mine that has never even held a buffer!

Also it was sanded with 1500 on the Rupes machine then compound with a blue foam pad and polished with yellow pad. I’ve never seen something get 1500 grit scratches out and not leave swirl marks.

Welcome to the forum Joseph! Do you have a link for this buffing system? Always looking for something that doesn't leave swirl marks as they drive me nuts...

How did the trim react to the buffing? The paint shop wants me to bring back my jeepster assembled for a final buffing and I was wondering about putting on the trim or not.

How much polishing went into the chrome steps??

Here is a link to the Rupes buffer. https://store.detailking.com/rupes-...nL6OS3t33XCmBdaOIxbfRMIddU0vH4RBoCWwUQAvD_BwE

That kit comes with an additional polish and small bottles of polish. My paint supplier has put together his own kit and comes with the buffer, 2 blue foam pad, 2 yellow foam pad and a large bottle of compound and large bottle of polish. It does not come with a bag but it was $544.

I’d leave the trim off that way they can sand and buff without scratching the trim. The chrome had been rechromed several years ago. Some pieces are better then others. All I did was use some #000 steel wool and cleaned it up.

For those asking about the buffing system. This a car I fixed that had some damage on the door. I am no professional by any means. I paint as a hobby. But I painted the 2 doors and then sanded with 1500 grit on the Rupes machine. Then compound and polish, nothing else.
