I am putting the rear drum back on my wagon and I was wondering what you torque the rear axle to? Do you torque it to a certain value and back it off to put the cotter pin in?? Does anyone know what the voltage reading should be at the battery with a proper functioning generator?

50 FTlbs then back off 1/4 turn insert cotter pin. Battery at rest with nothing on should be between 12.0 volts and 12.8 volts. Remember it's a generator! It charges at a rate over 1200 rpm's so if you do a lot of intown driving it will not charge the battery! Reving it up to higher rpm while waiting for stop light to turn helps a little. Those ol' generators don't like low rpm's. Might think of converting to alternator. Small block alternator for chevy 6 cyl will work with a little configuring of the holding hardware brackets. No need for the voltage reg. unless you want it for added safety for voltage spikes if the diode is going bad in the alternator.
