Near-reproduction pickup box

when my friend did his 52 truck it was being built at a shop down in Tucson Az....

the bed sides were straight but the floor was oil canned pretty badly...so he decided to cut out the floor and replace it with diamond plate .....

well they got it cut out ok........then gave it to an inexperienced welder to put the new floor in .....who not knowing his ass from a hole in the ground......

promptly overheated the bed while welding in the floor....which then caused the bed to warp and twist on opposing corners...

basically turning the bed ..into a taco.......so then they said we can get you another aftermarket bed but it is kinda expensive.....

no problem what does he do..?? he splits the cost of a new bed kit with them..... he pays them .some $800.!!...... i think ...WTF..??..what the hell were you thinking..??

they trashed your bed ....they fix it... their time... their dime....!!.........i would have told them they better get their head out there ass and get their shet together.....be Damned if i m paying for your fruck up..!!

says he done it to move the truck build along and get it done......which it never was....after 3 years he says Hell with it .... screw these meth snorting clowns.!!... and went down with a friend and got whats left of his truck and brought to Phx and put in a storage locker for 2 years till he had time to get it finished by a local shop.

he has hard copy pics of the build in a couple binder showing how things were over 3 years of driving back and forth to Tucson 1-2 a month while running his architecture office here in Phx ...funny thing is..that shop was raided next day by FBI who seized everything in sight ....

..he was tipped off the day before bout the raid next morning ......just 24 hours later.... he would have never saw his truck again..!!

Guys, the box I am having made at Mar-K Industries is the vintage ‘48 to ‘50. I am working with the VP of Engineering on it. Stake pocket position, box length, cross sill positioning etc. I should have it in the next week or so.

John
has the bed arrived yet?

Basically, we want to get through my build and document any needed changes etc. I actually think the minor tweaks are so subtle that it could go to market. Only thing that could possibly be considered is to narrow 1/2”.

is tailgate plain or does it have the grooves in it, i know they dont have the WO stamp

My tailgate is plain but plan but have the stencils to paint the Jeep and 4wd on it. No grooves.

I do need to cut a recessed area out above the shock mount area above the frame and weld the flange area back in. Pretty simple adjustment.

Got to admit....i think this is pretty awesome. If i ever find a cab and frame nice enough to "restore" a brand new box would be an awesome update ! Thank you for all your leg work. Lots of hours involved with stuff like this.

Thank you. It’s coming along well. I hope my hep working along side the team at Mar-K Manufacturing will create a great option for others to use in their restorations.

John

Box is on and minor mods. I do have a U shaped reinforcement pieces that will go over the cutout area by shock mounts.
