Hello again,
I am wondering what tire pressure is recommended when using Non-directional tires?

I am running 16'' wheels with 7.00' wide NDT and not sure what tire pressure to run. I have them at 28 lbs now but it was just a guess.
The manual states 20-front, 24-rear but I'm not sure what type of tire this is referring to and with 60 years passing is it still relevant.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

I don't remember off the top of my head but the recommended pressure is usually on the sidewall of the tire.

The military usually painted the reccommended tire pressure on the vehicle fender. There was no reason for the mil. to put the tire pressure on the tire. It wasn't required back then. If the tire is 4 ply then the 24 - 28 range should be about right. 6 ply a few pounds more pressure. I wouldn't get too precise about it myself. diggerG

Thanks DiggerG.
Sounds like a 26 lbs would be a good middle ground for all. Any they are 4 ply.

Sorry Mathman, the tire never has a recommended pressure, only max, on the sidewall. They often have a maximum pressure, good if you need to carry a heavy load, but generally sky-high for any other use. Vehicle manufacturers figure out their idea of pressure for the best compromise of handling, uniform tire tread wear, and load-carrying ability. Or if the vehicle has handling quirks like a VW bug or a Corvair, then most important to the auto manufacturer is to tame the handling defects and not get sued.

I mis spoke a little on my previous post. The ND military tires did not have tire pressures on them because the manufacturer didn't need to put it on. It wasn't required. Of course the military didn't make them. I think old school was don't put more than 32# in a 4 ply tire. less is ok for a better ride or a light weight vehicle. 6 ply was considerabley more but i don't remember how much. diggerG

The NDTs on my truck:

Mathman 's tires are new, made after the DOT required the tire info to be printed on them. Technically you can't use the older NDs on commercial trucks because they aren't labeled to modern safety standards. Therefore illegal. I bet someone on this forum knows someone who got busted for running older NDs on a commercial truck. I think there's an exception for antique trucks though. diggerG
