Hi I just got a set of heater controls for my 1961 Sedan Wagon and I thought they used a simple set screw but there is only the hole and I couldn't figure out how to take the knobs off the cables.

I will appreciate your help.

If I remember correctly you need to insert a small screwdriver in the hole and pry the release on the clip inside the knob while you pull knob toward you. Hope this helps.

buckskins and hillbilly21 thanks for the info I will try tomorrow night that I get home after a week of working on another city.

thanks again

I screwed up when removing the headlight knob a couple days ago. I removed the setscrew and thought the knob should just pull off. Wrong! I broke it before realizing that the knob screws off after the setscrew was removed. I just didn't expect it to be threaded and have a setscrew. Not sure if the heater control knobs are the same, but be careful! :D

Once the knobs come off, how do you remove the assembly from the bracket? I need to replace one of mine, but I don't want to damage the replacement part removing it from another bracket.

I was heading towards making a tool for removing the bezels but tried a set of needlenose pliers as I walked by the toolbox. The screw-on pieces on our '59 were able to be removed by pointing the tips of the pliers into opposing indents and turning.
