Does anyone know of a hood safety latch that will fit on a '58? I don't need the spring mechanism, it's the safety latch just to the left of it. Need to pass a state inspection. Of all the things!

When do you need one by? I may have an extra one but, actually I think both of the donor vehicles I have are missing them. I'm sure I can fab you one once I get to that stage of things. By that I mean I have some building (sealing and painting) to do before I can devote any real time to my vehicles. I'll get going on that once I get to feeling better....i'm still quite ill.

Once I am able to I'd be glad to fab you one...both of you.

Thanks TT. I hope you get to feeling well soon. What are your plans for the donor wagon. I'm in need of some roof sheet metal. Right side about 2 feet long along drip rail. The truck wagon look real neat. I'd like to see more pics of that. Chuck

I'd put the exterior ones on regardless of original or not. I've heard way to many stories of the hood flying open at speed. The factory ones just don't hold up to todays speeds. Just not worth it to take that chance.

Walck has new repro I believe - would have bought mine 8 yrs ago now for '50 jeepster - same thing - can't remember vendor or price but probably him.

Hey rc. Thanks, I hope to start feeling better soon too. My plans for the donor vehicles are to take what I need for my primary vehicle. I believe I'll need some of the roof and drip rail, but only the left side. So, as it stands right now you're welcome to the right side. I want to get a second or third opinion on it when I get a thread going.

Donor Vehicle 1...the Truck Wagon was done in a really poor way....meaning it is just chopped up really bad without much concern for anything else. I will get some more pics of it for you when I am able.

As for the safety latch. I couldn't find just the latch, but I did find this...

I'm missing mine as well...it must be common for them to get bent and break...

Yeah, the thin sheet metal ones do seems built to break. That one on the link is solid metal though and I don't imagine it would be as susceptible to breakage.

On my primary vehicle I'm missing the primary latch and didn't even know it until I got the 1st donor vehicle.

Thanks to all who have weighed in here. This has turned in to a pretty interesting thread with some pretty amazing people who are willing to help. I spoke to Walcks today and they are supposed to be sending me a repro. That whole setup from Outlaw looks nice, but a little pricey. I think Walcks is going to end up running me 10 or 11 dollars. I'll let folks know how it turns out when I get it.
