Hello everyone.

I've admired Jeeps (Willys) since I was a kid. My older brother was keen on the Jeepster and I've been a fan ever since. I have owned the Jeep brand since 1988, originally in the form of the Comanche. In 1993 I sold the Comanche and purchased a Cherokee, Country. I still own the Cherokee but several years ago my sister borrowed it and it just never came home :? :D

I'm in a part of the country that does see some snow....not a lot, but some. My other car might as well be a skate in the winter and I don't even take it out if there is even a hint of foul weather (meaning freezing or snow in its many iterations). And, that's how I even started looking at 4x4's this time around.

I have recently purchased what I believe to be a 1961 Willys Wagon w/Tornado under the hood that needs some work.

I've become a member here seeking your expert opinions and your non-expert opinions (for that ^ ^ ^) of which I will delve into in the appropriate forum....Just wanted to get my hello's in.

See ya's around.

Well Tornado Tamer,
My guess is, your somewhere in the midwest (probably Oklahoma?). I'm in Missouri and know exactly what you're saying. My daily driver is an 88 Dodge short bed. I love this truck, but it's hell in the winter. We got our first snow/ice mix this morning, so the "highway to hell" was pretty slick. Especially with that 140,000 mph side wind pushing me around. Unfortunately, my Willys is in the garage and torn apart. Anyhow, welcome to the forum.
Steve

Welcome aboard and Merry Christmas! Your '61 Tornado has some great potential, some areas to work on, but I think you have a brite diamond in the rough...a silk purse from a cow's ear...a cream puff....a piece of heaven. It seems most of us here are starting projects, so it will be interesting reading about your progress as well. Enjoy!

Hello Steve, thanks for the welcome!

Midwest, yes. Oklahoma, no ;) I'm the object in your mirror that is closer than it appears, it seems :D

We'll have to get you out of the shop and on the road then?

Take care, Steve.

Hello there 62....thank you, thank you. It is a pleasure making your acquaintance.

Yeah, I do believe it has plenty of potential. I was amazed at how little rust there is on her...it's one of the main reasons I picked her up. I did see, by the light of day, that there are a few peculiarly potentially difficult areas that will need to be addressed.

I've run into the 20 image limit and that doesn't even get me half way through my primary vehicle. It just so happens that I was fortunate to have acquired two (2) donor vehicles as well, so I'll have to get with one of those offsite image repositories to be able to sufficiently represent what I'm working with. I'm a tad under the weather right now but in the next couple of days I am going to try and put a thread together, with all the pics.....if I don't die first ;)

I certainly will be interested in following the progress of any active project here, indeed.

Merry Christmas to you and yours, too, and may the best of this last year be the worst of this coming new year for you and those you love!!!

Welcome!

Can't wait to see some pics........

Thanks Imp.

There are the maximum allowed, 20, in my gallery now. But, let me get to feeling a little better and I'll post up a bunch more. I'm a big fan of pictures. Pictures of any sort really, but in this context you'll be pleading with me to stop with the pictures already... :D

All the best and take care.

Welcome TT, I am new to the willys community so won't be much help answering the technical questions. Good luck with your project.

I've been really busy lately and not around here much and I apologize for that....it was never my intention.

I'm buttoning up some finish work on a room I built to live in in an outbuilding here on my sisters acreage. I started it last Oct or Nov thinking it would only take a couple to a few months and boy was I ever wrong. As I said, I'm still not done  In part it's taken so long because I'm relatively disabled and got done what I could get done when I could get it done....oh, youth :(

Here's a few shots of the room...before and up to now (except that the floor is actually finished, except for the closet area)...

The last thing I did on the Willys was to replace the front leaf-springs with a set of leaf-springs a nice member here sent me and I thank you again. I had to cut off the u-bolts as the old ones were frozen in place but that was the only issue I had with the work of replacing them.

I did some dismantling of the donor vehicles and that's where that stands. When I was here last someone had an interest in a section of one of the roofs I have. I apologize for not responding sooner, but like I said I've either been really busy or laid up from being really busy with the room....along with some other recent medical issues. It is still available to you IF you still need and want it.

Did you know that Bursitis feels just like a separated shoulder? I do now  I thought I had separated my shoulder just leaning on my elbow resting on the couch...I toughed it out for a week....I could barely move my arm at all. It got so bad and wasn't letting up that I went to the ER and after a series of no answers to their many questions (were you in a car wreck, did you fall down, were you in a fight) they informed me that I had Bursitis. I'm here to tell you that Bursitis isn't the antiquated malady I once thought it was....it is real and it is NOW! I'm just now able to move it enough to reach the desk top and the keyboard.

I should be done with the room in a couple to a few weeks and will then get back to the Willys and will try to be on here more regularly after that. That is, if I don't fall over dead in the interim

It's good to be back and even better to be able to reach a keyboard again! ;)

So, greetings, salutations and apologies--again ;)

I hope that you(s) and those you love are all well and safe!

Take very good care, all!,

Hello Mike. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance!

I'm sorry to read of your episode of Bursitis....I know how truly painful an experience it IS...now  I hope you're feeling better!

The space I am in now is actually a lot better than the space I was in here. It was in the main house but it was really, really small. I couldn't even have a desk and a futton frame in there at the same time :D

Your assumption is correct ;)

Thank you and thanks for the welcome! Back at'cha...welcome to OW :thumbupleft:

Take very good care!,
