Hey guys, looking to get some info on locking hubs for the 170. Hopefully the pictures attached properly to this message.

The one I have came with 2 different hubs. Passenger side has this really cool International hub identified as M154. Very little info online, but at least there is something. The other hub seems "generic" with no identifying info as far as I can tell. Also, the driver side hub did not fit over the rim that came with the truck. I think it has left me with a lot of damage to deal with as shown below (I think it also prevented the PO from doing brake jobs because they were beyond shot!). I want to upgrade to disc in the future, so I probably won't live too long with these drums.

On to my questions: Is it ok to operate with 2 different hubs? The axles are both 10 spline. I was told it was used as a plow truck previously so I am assuming they used 4WD. Would 2 hubs cause stress on the internals?

Does anybody on this forum have any knowledge on the M154? It kind of has sentimental value to me because I originally wanted to rebuild a Scout, until I found this beauty (and upon close inspection had IH history on it). Very little info on it, let alone another one for sale.

I check different online places to see if those M145s are for sale. I only need the one. I will probably have to go to a swap meet one of these days.

There is no reason to have identical hubs on both sides, as long as they fit and work.
Your M154 hubs are Warn hubs made for IH exclusively. Same hub fits Jeeps.
Looks like you have at least 1 broken bolt in your hub. Gotta get that out.
Looks like you need a hub as well. I’d say a complete brake inspection is in order.
I may have some of those M154 hubs I can look, as well as hub/drum units.
By the way those wheels aren’t FC170 wheels either. That is why they are jammed on.

Yea, I brought both hubs to a machine shop to clean them up and I had them remove that broken bolt (better to have the experts with the right tools fix it rather than my shade tree mechanic skill making it worse).

You have no idea! There weren't even brake lines on the rear! The brake system is basically junk. I started with the rear, now I'm on the front axle.

Well, I am definitely in the market for at least one. I haven't disassembled the M154 yet to see if it's in decent shape. It "locked" easily, not sure if that's a good or bad sign.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but it's in the same vein.

Referencing the first picture posted, I'm in the process of disassembling that hub. I purchased a good hub and a donor hub from @diggerG recently and I realized that not only are the hubs aluminum, but the little allen head bolts might be as well? Is that correct? If so, I should stop bothering with penetrant oil and just drill them out. No saving aluminum corroded bolts in aluminum.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Edit: Quick update, used a little heat (just enough to boil the Liquid Wrench) and the bolts turned out easily (even the stripped one)
