Willys Model
Willys Year:
I just bought a 1949 Willys Wagon. I'm trying to identify the motor. It is a 6cyl OHV. It does not say Tornado on the head. I did find a casting# on the block 3176050DD2. Also the head color is teal green. Distributor and fuel pump are on passenger side. Carb. and starter on the driver side. This vehicle has been in storage for the past 40 years. The carb is missing and for now, the motor seems to be locked up.Willys 013.jpg[/attachment:vaue7ssw]Willys 014.jpg[/attachment:vaue7ssw]

Not sure about your motor-

Wagon looks nice, welcome to the forum...

Pete

that is a 196 cube rambler american motor. i had one in my 64 rambler. it had a little one barrel holley carb. i don't remember what carb number. good engine, might be hard to find parts. lol!

Here is a pic of a 64 lark engine, (I found this in a 47 Willys pickup) took some tine to find out what it is, not a match! Notice the manifolds on the opposite side. I will try to find the old thread, there were many guesses in it. I think (ouch that hurts) it was made by ford off one of their existing engines,,,,

Good luck hunting down the exact match! It took me 3 months to find what this one is!

Edit: I see differences in the tappet cover also, the ford engine has the same look to the cover,,,,

I "second" the 196 Rambler motor. Destinctive valve cover and intake manifold. (different ribbing and casting than Ford). That is one cool lookin' wagon. I'm diggin' the white walls. Good Score!

Wagon looks really clean. Nice find. Do you plan on trying to free up that engine and keep it.

Thanks everyone!
My plan was to try to use this motor. We'll see. I also have a complete Rolling Chassis I just picked up. It's 4WD complete w/engine and trans etc. It could make this project super EZ. However my wife is really unhappy with this. I may have to sell it.

Oh man. The wives are usually a little harder to win over. Just show her some of the wagons and trucks on this forum and she can see how cool it will be. Sounds like Eric B.'s wife is getting into it, after 18 months, but still. Maybe take his approach...lots of "honey do" work around the house buys you Willys tolerance. My wife has just given up on trying to get it and has accepted this serious flaw i have towards the Willys. Good luck.

Can't afford diamonds. I just spent all my money on a Willys.
Speaking of money, Does anyone know how much this may be worth as a non-runner? (With my extra chassis).

I've never understood women who don't get the Willys thing (or any other vehicle for that matter, though I have to admit that I have a bias). If I'm not mistaken, Mom helped Dad put his back together after an accident when they first got together.

Besides, who wouldn't want a guy with the sort of dedication that a project like this requires? And don't even get me started on how much cheeper and safer it looks next to a lot of hobbies or how a garage is a lot better place than say a barroom to have your guy hanging out.

I'm all for a guy the helps out around the house, but maybe you need to ease her into helping you with your project too. A lot of things are easier with two sets of hands and she just may gain a whole new appreciation for it in the process.

YES!!! 196 AMC motor. I found pix of the identical. Does anyone have a carb for this motor? Thanks!!!

Since my last divorce I have a different outlook on things. I spent 25 years with the last one to find out she did not care about me! OR what I like to do. She left out for a child and I picked up and moved on. I am now getting back to the things I loved to do, old cars and trucks have been a part of my life until I wed her. Let me put it this way until her I had never bought a running car or truck, I built them! My new gal loves to do the same things I love, yes she helps on projects!!! And baits her own hook! She is right there ready to skin out whatever I bring in,,,

This sounds kinda cold hearted but, dont loose yourself for her! Thats what I did,,,
Maybe take her dancing or something, there has to be a way!
Good luck
