Easiest way to remove the bed from my 1951 Willys

Alright.. I removed the front fenders from ,y pickup... very easy task... I don't know why the previous owner reinstalled all those bolts... six or seven on each side seems like enough... but that's another thread...

What is the easiest way to remove the bed and how many bolts on each side? I thought about chaining the bed to a tree and just drive off.. (not really)

I just want access to the frame for sandblasting, repair, etc.

I think there are 6 bolts, My wife and I had a hard time getting ours off but with 3 people it's pretty easy. Easier with 4 though. Weighs probably around 200 pounds.

i am going to be putting mine on soon so i plan on using my engine crane. if that doesn't work i will recruit a few helpers to pick mine up and put it on.

My 1961 has 10 bolts, I unbolted it and had 3 helpers add just lifted and walked it away.

Yea it's not too bad I did it alone, just had a platform at bed height to slide it onto. Start at bad got that tilted off, then did same on the front and slid it from there.

Not counting the bolts for the fenders, fender supports, and bed skirts...

In the process of taking mine off right now also, it is a "61". Think mine has 12 also, with the 4 that are attached to the raised mounts,
then the rest of the frame itself.

No it is 14 bolts ( at least on my 51 it was) ...7 per side 5 large bolts....1 at each corner 1 at middle 1 bolt through the bed cross member to rear frame 1 bolt through front bed crossmember to frame (two small bolts?) on forward corner mounts.

i unbolted the bed and then crab walked it off .......then stood up on end against the back wall where it sat for the next year or so.

When we took the bed off the White Beast to install the air bags we had 5 friends who happen to be at the house at that particular moment so we say come out to the garage ...want to show you something......once out there i told them now that you are here guess what?......??.....alright everyone, grap a corner....

1..2...3!!! Heave HO!!....then walked over to the 4x8 motorcycle trailer and set it down on that where it sat for a couple months reinstallation was opposite of removal.
so with 4 people you can walk it off but if by yourself crab walk it as i did then stand it up next to wall .

A couple of HF come alongs, 2x4 'A' frames and I could remove and install by myself. Lifted it up and rolled the truck under it. The 2x6 cart was my body dolly for painting. But as others have said, 3 or 4 people can lift it off.
