E Brake without rear output drum

The drum em brake all 3 types are worthless, convert to 11 inch brakes and use the rear cables for your em brake, this is the only type that works. i tried for 50 years to get a drum em to be dependable and never did, first try with rear em brakes and it works, bite hard and holds...use 72 -86 cj-5 parts...Phil

Those backing plates won't work if a main goal is to move the parking brake to the rear wheels. They'll get you 11" self-adjusting brakes, but not a parking brake. A version with the raised area and hole for the cable is needed. I used the entire 4-piece set from a '74 CJ5. Early Wagoneers and J-trucks would be good sources too. Some Fords will work, do the research. Scouts would probably work too.
Yep. The rear backing plates are different but these work for the fronts. Just finding rears from any thing seems a task.

I always wonder why a disk brake caliper was not developed for this purpose. I would think it would be the best solution.
But there has been at least one developed for this purpose! Ask Rodney @rocket

Okay experienced eyes wanted: need to know if the adjusting drive shaft is adjustable. I am looking to install the edrum brake and wondering if it looks as though the drive shaft welded in a fixed position.

If you are looking here it (see circle) IMG_6997.jpegIMG_7010.jpegIMG_4694.jpegIMG_6996.jpegshould be able to move in and out as needed. That said, mine was so locked up with junk and grease etc I almost had to torch it off. You can get replacement seals and caps etc.

One note. At the u joint on each end is a weep hole for excess grease etc the needs to remain open. Again, mine were full of crude
