What makes the simplest modern rear end swap for a '49 wagon 2WD, keeping the proper width. It currently has a rear end that is 4" wider than the front and the wheels stick out past the body. The previous owner did this and so the back end is lifted to accomodate the width. I want to put it back down to it's proper level stance. Thanks

I think the early style S-10 blazer or jimmy axles will be close to what you need for width. I have read about a few of them being used for body transfers.

I would look at an 8.8 out of a Ford Explorer. Way beefier than a S-10 axle.
