Just putting out the word that next year's Ypsilanti Orphan Car Show (Summer 2011) will be featuring orphan trucks...I would say that that includes Willys. For those not familiar with the Orphan Car Show, it is held at Riverside park in Ypsilanti Michigan usually 1st or second weekend of June. It is a car show dedicated entirely to makes of cars and trucks that no longer exist, i.e. Willys, Hudson, Studebaker, etc. It is a very cool show and usually draws a couple hundred vehicles. Each year, they honor a specific marque; this year was Corvair. Next year will be orphan trucks. The show, and many other great classic car events, is put on by the Ypsilanti Auto Heritage Museum, Check out thier website.

I would really love to get a great showing of Willys wagons and trucks to show up to this show. My Sedan Delivery should be ready to go by then so I am really looking forward to it. Anyone interested in attending a really unique car show should really try to make it to this one either as a participant or a spectator. I would be happy to host a get together at my house in Ann Arbor for any of my Willys brethren that may end up coming to town for the show, especially if from far away. If anyone would like more info on this show or about the Ann Arbor/ Ypsi area, please contact me and I will be happy to point you in the right direction.
Re: Calling all Willys-Plan now!

Michigan, huh? That'd be a little too hard on the travel budget. Sounds neat though; love to see it.
Re: Calling all Willys-Plan now!

Depending upon which weekend it occurs, I will drive down from Flint with my wagon. Riverside park is the new location for Billetproof MI, which is also held in June.

Re: Calling all Willys-Plan now!

Is there a date for this event????

Could pull it off with a visit to my folks in Kazoo.....

Is it around the same time as the show in Battle Creek?
Re: Calling all Willys-Plan now!

Ok, There is a firm date for this show set now. It will be Sunday, September 25, 2011 in Ypsilanti Michigan at Riverside park.

I am really hoping to get a large Willys contingent here for it as these unique vehicles get little attention in the world of classic vehicles.

If you have any other "orphan" vehicles, bring them too.

Again, I will offer to be an unofficial host for anyone coming to town for this. Let me know if I can help in any way.

Of course there are tons of things to do in the area if you need more incentive. There is a large firehouse museum in Ypsilanti to tour, you can visit the Yankee air museum at historic Willow Run airport, there are lots of great restaurants and shops in Ypsilanti and of course Ann Arbor, which is only 5 minutes West. And any self-respecting classic car lover must see the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village in Dearborn Michigan, about 20 minutes east of Ypsilanti.

Sports fan? Then take this chance to see the Michigan Wolverines in action at the Big House (seating capacity, 109,901), on Saturday the 24th.

And yes, weare close to Detroit. For those that haven't been, it's not as bad as you think. Lots of fun to be had downtown including restaurants, theaters, museums, casinos. For a little international flare, check out Wndsor Ontario, just across the border.

Need any more info or incentive? Let me know how I can help.
