I really wish I could make it down for this. Sounds like you guys will have a great time. Please take a brief moment of silence, as you guys are sitting around the fire yucking it up, to honor your fellow Willys-aholics that can't be there with you.

This sounds pretty exciting... I grew up in Moab, lead Jeep Safari trails for 13 years was a charter member of the Red Rock Four wheelers.. My wife and I will be there with or without my truck... If I am not able to get it on the road by then will have to bring another Jeep...
We left Moab almost 30 years ago and went to Denver and three years ago moved to Grand Junction Colorado which is about an hour and a half from Moab...
Here's the latest update from Casey Dimmitt, re: itinerary and Saturday run to Gemini Bridges...
All is going well. We have a few more RSVP's ! Cant wait to see you Guys and Gals there.
I may have a small change in plans. My co pilot may not make it so I may or may not be caravaning with some folks from Vegas. If I do, I will not arrive in town untill 8-9pm Friday. This will kill the Zax pizza meet and greet...unless yall do it without me
Our Trail Leader Bill Johnson just got back from pre-running our route for our meet!
His text below with minor edits from me:
We pre-ran the anticipated route and looked at a couple of options. We walked a number of trails to pick lines and just decided to stick with the main trails because we don't know the capabilities of the members or their 50/60 y/o Willys. So, our plan is to follow the Gemini Bridges Road with a couple of interesting side roads. The first goes in a box canyon with a couple of arches high in the wall and a pair of spires, one known as the Bride. The second goes down Bull Cyn, with a separate side trip to a hidden canyon. I thought this would make a nice back country lunch spot. It should be pretty private. Please keep in mind there are no restroom facilities. There are a lot of rocks to congregate around and on as well as a sand hill. Not to mention the hidden canyon. Nice spot.
Returning to Bull Canyon, we go to the base of the Gemini Bridges. There is a trailhead there with a short hike to the bottom of the Bridges. The hike is maybe half a mile each way. It seems like people take about 30 minutes to hike in and back. The hike is basically flat. It is a stream bed and sort of rocky. Also, it is popular with bikes, motorcycles and quads as well as 4wd. After the hike, we'll climb out of Bull Canyon to the Gemini Bridges Road and head to the top of the Bridges. We'll take the short walk out on the Bridges and try not to fall through. Please watch your youngsters! There is no protection at any of these canyons. From there it is a quick drive on a gentle, wide road to UT 313. At 313, we'll turn toward Canyonlands and Dead Horse SP and head down Long Canyon. This will be fun. It's steep, but easy with great views and goes pretty directly from the top of the Island in the Sky to the Colorado River canyon downstream from Moab. From there, it's pavement all the way back to town (about half an hour).
It took us 3.6 Driving Hours to do this. We covered 63.3 miles, 30.5 of which were on pavement. Since the Willys was back here, we used a basically stock '98 K1500 ext cab short (6.5) box pickup. I didn't get much of a feel for whether we went faster than we would have in the Willys or not.
With a town departure around 10:00 am, we should be back by 5:00 if we keep things rolling somewhat. However, there is no built in time to explore Canyonlands or Dead Horse Parks. This route will have good vistas, narrows, hidden canyons, arches and bridges, meadows and big canyons. I think it should be a pretty good mix. We will visit (on spur trails) the two allowed camping areas on this route. Note that the BLM requires that campers carry their own toilet. We are day trippers, so I assume we are exempt from that requirement.
