1959 Pickup

However, while I was doing some of that, I let a halogen worklamp come in contact with the seat he recovered:

necessitating that I purchase a cover of my own to fix my blunder, letting on to him the what happened without necessarily letting on the why. Kind of like being 18 again myself. ;)

I also added some of the necessities for any truck:

One of the things I failed to mention when I was cutting the frame down for the aftermarket bed and reassembling it was the rear-most crossmember. Back in Post #292 I showed this picture

but I never got into why I put that rear tab on instead of welding the crossmember to the side rails.

It was originally riveted and for what was then "in the meantime" I just slipped a few 3/8" bolts through the old rivet holes.

while I waited on the arrival of some 3/8" allen button-head fasteners:

When they showed up I replaced the hex bolts I had temporarily installed with the button heads and then filled the cutouts for the Allen key with Bondo:

and painted it to match after the Bondo dried. Wala! An undisturbed stock/riveted joint - or so it seems - that should never get anyone's attention (except yours or mine, of course ;) )

Jack took leave over the Memorial Day weekend and made the 10+ hour drive home in his truck.

While he was here we took care of a few, minor things (i.e. The old Spartan turn-signal switch needed jiggling every-so-often to allow both brake lights to come on.) Not knowing what we'd get into, we bought an aftermarket switch with a 4-way function a few weeks ago and installed it this weekend before going for a few deliberately-longer-than-necessary test drives.

Ultimately the internal switch contacts only needed cleaning before reassembly, but we didn't want to take the chance of him going back without both lights when we bought the other. The Spartan switch is in the drawer, ready as a spare.

It's pretty good to be working on the small things that pop-up as the miles get added.

He also changed the front swaybar bushings and a few other things while we had it in the garage. Then, this morning, he and his brother did some four-wheeling on the west side of Pike's Peak.

And sent me this mandatory "Jeep Pose" ;)
