Info from their web page (icon4x4.com):

This 1951 Willys Jeepster was found in the garage of the second owner, here in Los Angeles. It was all original, down to the paint. This build was commissioned by a repeat client, so we got lucky to find such a nice one, right here in town.

• Art Morrison custom built chassis
• Independent front suspension
• Rack & pinion power steering
• Triangulated four link rear suspension
• Ford 9” rear end by Strange
• Coil-over suspension
• GM Ecotec four cylinder motor
• Aisin AX5 five speed
• Custom wheels with stock hub caps
• “Elephant” vinyl seats
• Mercedes canvas top skin
• Hidden audio system
• Modern heat system

The gentleman either has a heavy accent that i cant hear proper or in all the time of this build and of the Jeepster no one ever told him the correct pronunciation of the word Willys. Calling it a Willis? Is that a California thing or to make it sound high brow?

Master of unfinished projects

"Will-iss" is technically correct. Most people pronounce it "Will-ease" (including me). Word around the campfire is that even back in John Willys' day, opinions were split. His alleged response? "I don't care how people pronounce my last name as long as they buy one of my cars."

Good story. Might even be true. :D

Here's a 2002 article from the Toledo Blade. It takes about pronunciation but then speculates on the "don't care as long as the buy my cars" possible but unlikely quote.
