OK, a lot of this trip was of the two foot variety, but there was some trail riding on both ends. The group met up in Bozeman, MT and caravan-ed to the Box Caynon Trailhead on the Boulder River south of Big Timber, MT. And yes, there was an OLD Willys involved.

SE of Livingston, MT. The northern end of the Absaroka Range and unfortunately, a prime example of what Montana is becoming.

At the Box Canyon Trailhead, all the gear was transferred to the JK, 6 people, 3 dogs, and all the gear. Yep, it was crowded. There is about 9 miles of Jeep trail from that point to the Independence Trail (FS 121) at the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness boundary.

After getting back to the trailhead, we still needed to do 9 miles of Jeep trail to retreive the JK. It was a long day and we made it home just short of midnight.

A few trail shots.

Awesome John, thanks for posting!

Pete

It took me 2 hours to go 20 miles on the 91 freeway today, stuck in traffic. I think it's time to pack up my Willys and relocate to the hills. Awesome pictures, thanks for posting.

Thanks for the pics, thats beautiful country.

Thank you for feeding our longings for the great outdoors.
Great pics.
Looks like it was a great trip.
Six people, dogs and gear - that was one crowded JK.

My JK was packed to the gills just taking my daughter and me to California and back the last two weeks.

I wish I could take my Wagon to such places. Sigh.

To all you guys who take your Old Willys to the mountains.
Please share so we can enjoy vicariously.

Here's a couple more from our trip in the JK.
This was at an abandoned mine in Joshua Tree National Park. Seriously steep, rocky road up to it. And the adit was not gated off yet so we could explore inside, until we started seeing fallen rock on the floor. We then beat a hasty retreat.

And at another mine in Chance NM.
