OK, a lot of this trip was of the two foot variety, but there was some trail riding on both ends. The group met up in Bozeman, MT and caravan-ed to the Box Caynon Trailhead on the Boulder River south of Big Timber, MT. And yes, there was an OLD Willys involved.
SE of Livingston, MT. The northern end of the Absaroka Range and unfortunately, a prime example of what Montana is becoming.
At the junction of Mt 298 and West Boulder Road, near McLeod, MT.
At the Box Canyon Trailhead, all the gear was transferred to the JK, 6 people, 3 dogs, and all the gear. Yep, it was crowded. There is about 9 miles of Jeep trail from that point to the Independence Trail (FS 121) at the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness boundary.
Haystack Peak, first day hiking.
Sheepherder Mountain and what is surely moose heaven. Day 2.
Morning Day 3 at Favonius Lake.
Twin Peaks, afternoon Day 3.
Looking into Wounded Man Creek from Jordan Pass, Day4.
Wounded Man Lake and Jordan Mountain, morning Day 5.
Ravin Lake, Day 5.
The largest of the 6 Rainbow Lakes, Day6.
Heading out on Upsidedown Creek Trail, Day7.
After getting back to the trailhead, we still needed to do 9 miles of Jeep trail to retreive the JK. It was a long day and we made it home just short of midnight.
A few trail shots.
My friend's Willys wagon and the JK back where we started 7 days before.
