I am in the process of replacing the glass on my Parkway Conversion and cannot find the correct rubber for the side windows. I have checked out Steel Rubber and did not see anything that matched. All of the weatherstripping that I find has the groove where the rubber fits over the body metal offset from the glass where the Parkway side window rides in the center of the window opening. Has anyone else had to replace this?

Hi Dan,

Any auto glass shop should be able to help you out. Here are two examples.C.R.Laurence does not sell to the public, but that is where nearly every glass shop in the metroplex gets their supplies from.

locking strip for the above gasket http://www.crlaurence.com/crlapps/s...8:19770:19748:19783:20885&ModelID=20888&pom=0
They make special tools for both of these gaskets that would make the job of lacing them together easier, but it can be done without them just will take you longer.
here is the tool for the first one http://www.crlaurence.com/crlapps/s...8:19770:19748:19783:20895&ModelID=20901&pom=0

here is the tool for the second one http://www.crlaurence.com/crlapps/s...8:19770:19748:19783:20895&ModelID=20906&pom=0

have not forgotten about the glass,we may be able to pick them up next weekend 3/23 or 24th

Forget about what I sent you.The outfit that Andrew posted will save you a lot of headaches.Cut out the middle man.The only thing I did not see were the tools. You can install those gaskets w/o the special tools, just use a lot of WD-40.The tools are nice if you do a lot of that kind of work.I used to have both of those but I let them get away from me.

Here are the tool I used to install the window.
The plastic putty knife came from the local hardware store.
Paint brush to apply the soapy water. the cup has a mix of dish wash soap and water.
The red handle tool is to install the lock strip in the rubber if it is a seperate piece.
I bought it at the local NAPA store, he did have to order from the warehouse.

Hi Dan
I have a few 50 foot boxes of this gasket:

WS Gasket.jpg

It's narrower than the one in your image.

It looks similar to Restoration Specialties AS1522 (Page 45).

If you want to check it out, let me know and I'll mail you a sample.

If it works, $65 plus shipping for 50 feet.

I also have a similar gasket material that accepts 3/16" to 1/4" material on both sides. Might be good for the vertical on a split windshield.

Incidentally, the dimension on my drawing shown as 5/16" appears to be about 1/2" on the material in your image.

In order for the rubber to take the correct shape around the opening and to hold the glass in the openings securely, you've got to take this dimension into account when you size the glass.

If the glass is being cut to standardized patterns (as Flat Out Glass would use), you have to use a gasket that has the original profile. If you use a substitute gasket and this dimension is not the same, the glass will need to be custom sized to get the correct fit.

You might want to get in touch with FOG and see if they can suggest a gasket source.

It might be the same as this:

E-mail Carl/Daniel your image.

I think I will hold off on coming to p/u that glass till after you get the rubber that you need. That way if by some chance your glass does not fit( to big) or something. I will bring the necessary tools and cut it down for you if you want. How does that sound?

I have used both the AS1522 with the built in lock strip and AS1216 that has a seperate lock strip.
I find the AS1216 eazer to install as the strip does not get in the way.

Here are same pictures adding a window on my CJ6 Meyers top.

It will probably be 2 to 3 weeks until I get around to having the glass installed. After hearing all of the problems that people have had installing the 2 piece windshield rubber I plan on hiring someone to install all of the new windows and weatherstripping. I found a guy who will charge less than $100 and come to the house to do it.
