A speed trap for camels?????

Anyone know what the canister on front bumper was for and why grill was cut?
The Brit commandos made extensive fuel, water and arms modifications for their jeeps. The tank condensed overflow from the radiator to prevent precious water loss in the desert. They cut out the grill for unrestricted airflow in the desert--interestingly enough, kept those mods later in jungle warfare. Some claim the stripped down jeeps we're modify for weight reduction. Cool vid on the subject.
