Vintage Willys pictures

Dan, how do you keep all these straight with what you have shared? Like when you grab a image from the internets, how do you know that you do not already have that one?

Good question Auggie. It's memory. I do occasionally re-read the thread to help. Unfortunately some of the links are broken (not just Photobucket). When I come across a Willys picture that's been posted before, but makes sense to include - like it fits a theme (eg. "Hy-Rail") or if the link is broken - then I'll include it again. My memory is not perfect though.

"An advertising photo of four models in a Jeepster at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The accompanying literature follows. Meet the Jeepster. Willys-Overland's new sports phaeton, the Jeepster, is a smooth-riding, glamorous descendant of its rugged forbear, the Jeep. Designed as a sun car built for fun, the newly unveiled sports car is one the first full-sized light cars to reach the market. Weighing only 2500 pounds, it offers fuel economy up to 29 miles per gallon of gas, has independent front-wheel suspension, soft rear springing, and excellent roadability because of its low center of gravity. Its continental styling is finished in two colors, brilliant yellow with contrasting black trim, or in fire wagon red."

Times, thanks to a special rig he has designed for his Jeepster. A redwood platform, fitted snugly into rear of his Willys sports phaeton, also serves as a roomy compartment for cameras and photographic supplies when McEachern is on an assignment."

"An adverting photo of a Jeepster with three models outside the Willys-Overland Administration Building on Jeep Parkway in Toledo, Ohio. The accompanying literature follows. The snappiest version yet of the hard-working Jeep is this latest member of the Willys-Overland line, the Jeep Sports Phaeton. Designed for youth, this pilot model of the car was previewed by the press and prominent industrialists at the company's recent second annual Institutional Day here. The racy body is painted fire-wagon red with cream trim. It is powered by the 4-cylinder Jeep engine and equipped with a fast gear ratio. Willys-Overland plans to produce it in the spring."

"An advertising photo of a Jeepster with four models at the University of Michigan. The accompanying literature follows. Fancy Jeep. Snappiest version yet of the famous Willys-Overland Jeep is this new sports phaeton, the Jeepster. Styled in the continental manner, the car is said to be one of the first full-sized light cars to reach the market. It weighs only 2500 pounds, offers up to 29 miles per gallon of gas, and its low center of gravity and jolt-absorbing springing affords a luxurious, road-hugging ride. Windows, eliminated because of the expense and weight, have been replaced by a new type of side curtain whcih is easily installed in the event of inclement weather, and is capable of staying in place whether the top is raised or lowered."

"An advertising photo of a 1950 Jeepster in front of a house. The following caption was attached. For Release March 30, 1950, and Thereafter. Newly styled, inside and out, is Willys-Overland's popular sports phaeton, the Jeepster. A massive front end with horizontal chrome cross-bars contributes to the low, sleek appearance of the car. Fenders and hood have been gracefully rounded for smoother lines. Operating convenience has been increased by a new instrument panel and relocation of controls. A choice of two new high compression engines, either 4 or 6-cylinder, is available for the Jeepster. Both engines have been engineered for greater fuel economy."
