1960 Jeep Steering Column

I would like to shorten the steering column in this Jeep. Removing the steering wheel and steering tube look fairly straight forward. Can anybody tell me how to remove the steering shaft from the steering box? Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Why? Shortening that would be tricky to get right. If you are a big guy try moving the seat back. Or narrower seat back.

Remove it with the steering box, remove the pitman arm, then remove the steering box cover and disassemble. Remember this is a serious safety component. I had a neighbor that had a welded shaft fail. It failed at 15 mph and he stopped in front of my house. He drove it home using vice-grips for a steering wheel. Think of a "Belt Suspenders" approach. Feel free to message me if you need more info.
