YNP by Wagon.....from Kansas.

Spare parts - what kind of spares am I taking? Here goes:

Some of those funny brake shoe retaining clips.

Points and Condenser

Spark plugs

Some fuel line

Belt

Gas cap

-Other stuff:

Oil for topping off engine/air filter

Oil for the gear boxes/rear end

Grease gun for the 1000mile lubes

Tire plugs

Thats really about it. There are auto part stores in the big towns, botch jobs to move along and towing worst case.

Willys parts for the most part can be shipped to get down the road. Castrophic failure is just another way for travel....

That was a great idea to use those jugs. I put it to good use today. It's a great way to corral odds and ends under the seat.

Thanks - I was trying to find a decent tupperware container and could find one dimension but never another. I was in the barn and had a "few" spare empty jugs and a test fit showed they were perfect.

Yesterday my rebuilt crank damper came in I pulled off the old one and compared the two with the keyway lined up. Look how much the grey one was out! The black one is the rebuilt. I sent it to Dale Manufacturing in Oregon. Fast service.

With the rebuilt unit installed the super Hirricane really runs well.

Just finished greasing everything, giving the critical stuff a final check and changing the oil. I have to work a 3 day tradeshow and then we go Thursday!

Oh, I'm in for this one! This sounds like a blast for sure. Can't wait for the updates...Thanks for taking us along.

Best regards:
Paul

We used a gps app called glympse on the Alaska or Rust trip and it was a great way to share live gps speed and destination, lots of flexibility with privacy and settings.

I’ll post a live link next week when I drive my wagon to Cleveland for the willys reunion

Did I miss the link to your glympse app?

I won't be doing any tracking just periodic updates. Here is my tech center in the cockpit. Tripmeter on the left and nav system data on the right.

From the driver's seat I can see speed up to 60mph which is outside of my normal range.

That thing on the left must be the entertainment center. Do you drive over to Colorado to reload it now and then?

Day 1 - June 7th

After getting home last night around 10pm from a tradeshow I wanted to sleep in, then pack and mow if needed.

Food and kitchen in. Next up the cooler and suitcases. We were going maxed out space wise. With the boys we had toys and books to load and of course all the wife stuff.

Did I mention it was getting hot.

All loaded we were ready to role. Starting odometer.

The wagon felt loaded, reactions were the same but you could tell she was carrying some weight. We pushed west from Gardner a few miles to find our first construction. I hope this isn't an omen...

Pushing on we rolled north and west. Through Eudora, around Lawrence and west on hwy 24.

At Wamego we gassed up, got a drink and rolled North on 99. At Westmoreland we stopped at the Oregon trail park.

From there we zigzagged west and north and stopped by Alcove Springs park. At this site along the Oregon Trail the Donner Party inscribed a rock while heading west. Little did they know...

Roughly 205 miles or so today. I have it written down in the car. So far so good.

More tomorrow.

Loving it, thank you for sharing your trip! Great pics! Beatrice brings back memories. Almost 40 years, while in college, my wife, infant son, and I drove out and led the service at a little church there. The average age of the congregation was at least 70. Sweet people, one of the parishioners invited us home to dinner, as was the custom. And the Donner Party...it's neat to see that reference from early in their trip. I grew up not far from where it ended for most of them.

Day 2 - June 8th

Beatrice, NE to North Platte, NE

After a late night it was quasi late morning. We loaded up and headed west. First stop was Homestead National Monument.

Since multiple family members in the past were homesteaders it is practically a mandatory stop.

The parting shot:

The sun was out with a vengence today and we went through waves of humidity. The temperature floated in the mid 80s to 90F range.

From Homestead we zigged and zagged through Holstein to Minden and Pioneer Village.

The flags show we were fighting a fantastic cross wind.

I have been coming here for a long time and while the current caretakers aren't runniing at 100% it is still a blast to stop and see.

From Minden we rolled west through Loomis and on and eventually to North Platte. The terrain was changing.

When we arrived in North Platte, NE we had to stop at Fort Cody trading post. A personal favorite.
