Re-wiring the Jeepster.

pulled out my gauges for a re-do.

tested all the gauges and cleaned the faces. DO NOT use any kind of liquid to clean faces, just a very soft brush. The numbers are silk screened and come off easy.

Cork between glass and metal trim was dried out, made my own gasket.

Made new paper between the glass and inside trim.

That turned out great - nice job! I am working with a spare cluster that I have. The gauge faces are not painted like yours - rather a brushed metal finish. My numbers seem to be holding on pretty well. I too need to make a new gasket - my cork came off in pieces.

my cork was craptacular as well.

I cut that D shaped seal into a U shape and pushed it into the trim groove with the curve pointing out and the ends pushed in.

It is nice and soft, seals well and won't break the glass.

don't touch the faces if you can....the paint is only silk screened on and comes off easily

I used step down bucks to bring down my voltages from 12v to 6v

For the overdrive:

For the heater fan:

For my gauges, I used an adjustable to "dial in" the voltage:

Oh almost forgot....please ignore the green zip ties.....I'm using them as a temporary hold for my wire runs.

On the gauges, are you stepping the 12 V to 6V to the original regulator or are you stepping 12V to maybe 5v straight to the gauges?? I'm going to get a 12 circuit universal harness from Speedway motors as I need to change bodies and rewiring is going to be easier and better looking than redoing the wiring job I did 40 years ago.
