I am restoring my gauges.

A quick easy way is to use a 9v battery or a wall charging adapter.

I used the wall adapter and inserted a wire into the hole which made for a super easy tester.

Good idea. What is your procedure for testing them? Will applying voltage just make the needles move? Or are you doing something else to them? How will you apply the ground?

I was thinking of making a power supply with a rheostat attached, as I figured some of the gauges - especially fuel - would work on varying resistance. I was thinking batteries, but I like your idea of a power supply.

I just wanted to make sure they worked.

So I held the negative onto the terminal and touched the positive and watched the sweep of the needle and quickly removed the positive at the end of the sweep

I made this high-tech gauge tester:

More info here.

Are you using 4.5 volts?? I'm trying to test and utilize original gauge set and the gauge voltage from the original setup is kinda a mystery.

Yeah if I remember right, the 6V supply gets stepped down to about 4.5V by the IVR (small box) on the back of the auxiliary gauge pod.
