Search by serial number?

Hey Chester,
Welcome to OWF!

The model identification/serial numbers for the FCs up until 1964 fit the general format of

61568 19474

The five digit prefix can be "decoded" using this information from a National Service Data publication (from http://restorecarsclassifieds.com/w...articles_simple&phrase=FC-170&search_kind=and):
NSD 0204 - FC-170 - 1957 - Model Identification, Tuneup, Timing & Carb (1).jpg

The five digit suffix is a sequential "build number".

You can use this table to determine when your truck was in production (from http://www.thefcconnection.com/forward_control_production_numbers.htm):

Is there a site I can punch in my serial number to look at the history of our FC?
I think you’re asking if there is a public database that shows the history of previous ownership. The answer, so far as I know, is no. This has been asked by others and I’ve never seen a link or a reference to such a database.

Part of the reason is that vehicle registration records exist state-by-state, and they historically used different formats and protocols for recording vehicle identification numbers, which themselves have changed formats over the years. So it wouldn’t be an easy database to compile on a national level. Then there are the privacy issues.
